Wisdom Tooth Palatine, IL

Wisdom teeth are the four permanent adult teeth at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom. Usually, wisdom tooth erupts at the age of 17-25. When the wisdom teeth do not have room to emerge out than it gets stuck creating the problem to the adjacent teeth. Removing the wisdom late teens or early twenties is a great chance because teeth are not fully formed and bone surrounding the teeth is less dense. Partial erupting wisdom tooth results in dental crowding, cyst formation, and infection. So usually the dentist recommends for the removal of it because these can create the problems causing serious damage to the adjacent teeth and jaw bone.

Some symptoms associated with wisdom teeth problems include:

  1. Wisdom Tooth pain and swelling
  2. Toothache
  3. Headache
  4. Jaw pain
  5. Dental crowding
  6. Infection and abscess: Gum disease

Wisdom teeth extraction procedure:

We have the experienced staff at our dental office to provide the environment of optimum safety, utilizing the modern monitoring equipment. Our dentist explains the procedure in detail during the procedure. The surgery is performed under appropriate anesthesia to maximize your comfort. During the extraction procedure, the area around the wisdom tooth is numbed using local anesthesia. Once the tooth is removed the area is stitched. A folded cotton gauze pad placed over the wound will help stop the bleeding. Your dentist will tell whether stitches need to be removed or dissolves over time.

After the procedure:

  1. Some oozing out of blood may occur the first day after wisdom tooth removal.
  2. Over the counter pain reliever is provided to relieve the pain. You are suggested to hold the ice pack against your jaw, it is also helpful in relieving the pain.
  3. The swelling usually remains 2 to 3 days after the wisdom tooth removal. Bruising may remain for several more days to resolve.

Home Care:

  1. Eat soft foods for a day or two following the surgery.
  2. Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater.
