What is a Veneer?

A porcelain veneer is a thin shell custom-made to fit on the tooth. Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are attached to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers improve the color, shape, position of your teeth, and make teeth look natural and healthy. Veneers help to improve your oral health for various cosmetic concerns including chipped, broken, discolored, or smaller-than-average teeth.

In this procedure amount of enamel removed is tiny and will be the same as the thickness of the veneer to be fitted, so that the tooth stays the same size. The preparation of the veneer is subtle you will probably need a temporary veneer to get the exact shape and size. Our dentist Dr. Patel proud to offer dental services to the community of Schaumburg, IL and the surrounding areas.

A veneer takes at least two visits. The first is to prepare the tooth and match the shade of adjacent teeth, and the second is to fit it.

Preliminary: In your preliminary office visit the dentist will take x-rays to examine the tooth for dental work.

Preparation: The dentist trims the surface of the tooth to prepare for the veneers. Then, the impression is taken or mold of your teeth to send to a lab to prepare the veneers. It will take about one to two weeks. Till the permanent veneer is ready, the temporary veneer is fixed over the trimmed surface.

Placement: Dentist checks for the proper fit and prepares the tooth by roughening the surface to improve the adhesion of the veneer. A special cement is used to attach the tooth with special cement and then ultraviolet light is used to harden it. Lastly, excess cement is removed, evaluate your bite and necessary final adjustment is made.
